You Can’t Have a Lifestyle Blog Without…(plus video clip)

EXERCISE!  I know this subject isn’t new, by any means, but I feel I would be remiss if I didn’t devote some time to discussing exercise and how it can benefit your business.  I am a HUGE believer in the many, many benefits of working out regularly but for the purpose of this real estate and business blog, I’ll try to keep this related to business and productivity.

“It is exercise alone that supports the spirits, and keeps the mind in vigor”.

I found a good reference for this post in a recent article published in the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper.  The article was entitled “People who Exercise on Work Days are Happier, Suffer Less Stress and are More Productive.”  Sums it up pretty well doesn’t it?

Throughout my life I have maintained a consistent exercise regimen….for the most part.  I, like many people, have had a few periods when I was not able to make it to the gym, track, sports games, etc.  I’d like to say I was super busy during those times but I’d be lying.  The reality is that I somehow got out of the habit of going to the gym and it took me awhile to get back into it.  (Habitual action is a huge topic in itself so we’ll save that for another post)

But one thing I have noticed for sure during those off periods is that I do not feel right without exercise-  neither physically nor mentally.  To be honest, I feel like crap.  And eventually (if this break lasts too long) feeling like crap begins to feel normal.  Scary, isn’t it?  Let’s touch on a couple specific things mentioned in the article:

-Happier.  No doubt about it.  Everything just seems brighter and more positive when you are working out consistently.  I am willing to bet the grumpy and depressing people in the office are not the ones who hit the gym that morning.

-Suffer Less Stress.  Yeah, I’ve felt that one.  Try this-  leave the office stressed out after a tough day (like when settlements are up in the air and a lot of money is on the line) and go to the gym.  You will feel noticeably better after a hard workout.

-More Productive.  I will attribute this to 2 things:  more energy and better concentration. 2 great things to improve.   I personally feel significantly more productive when I’m in good shape.

So are you on the ball with your exercise routine? How has it helped your business?

Here is a quick video clip of Jason and me heading into the gym Thursday morning.  Have a great Friday!
