Fear and Real Estate Investing – Part II

Last week, I wrote about how real estate investors have had to deal with a difficult past few years as well as an uncertain future.  And how that uncertainty has forced each of us to make a choice – quit or power through.  I also wrote about Helen Keller and how she rose above insurmountable odds to overcome her own fears and become a celebrated author, speaker, political activist and inspiration to many.

With almost perfect timing, a new book has just been released by Jonathan Fields entitled, Uncertainty: Turning Fear and Doubt into Fuel for Brilliance.  Jonathan is a lawyer-turned-entrepreneur, blogger, business consultant, speaker, and author.  The book addresses a lot of questions we all have about uncertainty and how the fear and anxiety it spawns can impact our lives.

Jonathan went from being a lawyer and making a 6-figure living with a top law firm to making $12 an hour as a personal trainer.  Much like a real estate investor, he walked out onto the highwire without a net.

Jonathan correctly identifies that disruption in our normal flow of life causes amplified uncertainty and, if we let it, can paralyze us and cripple our ability to create positive outcomes in our lives.  He also examines success in the face of this disruption.

In a recent Forbes.com article, Jonathan was quoted,

“I’ve always been fascinated by what allows a small number of world-class creators across a variety of fields to take action in the face of great uncertainty, while most others around them drown in fear, doubt and paralysis. Is it genetic? Or, is it trained? If you’re born with the Jones to create, but not the ability to handle the emotional toll it can take, are you just doomed to a life of suffering? Or are there things you can do to not only get comfortable with uncertainty, but invite more in the name of creating bigger, badder, better outcomes?”

In that same article, Jonathan gives his top 3 tips for confronting uncertainty in this current economic climate, and shares some personal practices and environmental changes that can help you become more creative in business.

To get Jonathan’s tips, learn more about the author or the book, and see a video trailer, here is the link to the Forbes article:

Also, if anyone out there has a good story about how you or someone you know overcame fear and anxiety to achieve something great, I’d love to hear it and possibly even share it with our readers.

Have an inspired and successful week.
